I have a Linksys E3000, the build I'm using is the one linked in the wiki dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_ftp-e3000.bin It's the first flash of a DD-wrt build I do on my router. If it isn't a main router, updating is not vital. For E1000, E3000, you could try freshtomato, which is safer than pulling the trigger on a random version of DD-WRT (even though the de-bricking isn't usually difficult). Or, for a sure bet on the E3000, DD-WRT 35550 K3.

With DD-WRT, for the E3000, there is a lot of versions. The DB suggests one, the wiki an other one, the FTP a lot.
