The server won't store critical files (I use a cloud service for that) or do any real critical stuff (no need for server grade parts or ECC RAM I guess). My OS of choice is Ubuntu Server (headless). The amount of simultaneous connected clients will be limited (3 or 4 max).
Not sure if I have a WINS server but I forgot to add the VPN subnet address and mask to the samba configuration on the NAS. After that I was able to access the shares and files on it.
